1V1 is a soccer drill that helps players train in the techniques of attacking as well as defending. Players ranging between the ages of 6 to 14 years old are most likely trained using this soccer drill. The set up of this game involves having a number of small fields and/or grids. A total of 4 players are placed at each of the fields. The object of this game or drill is to dribble the soccer ball across towards and above the opposite line.
The game begins when the first player, player 1, kicks the ball to the second player, player 2. Once player 2 is able to touch the ball, players 1 has the permission to enter the field and play the position of the defender.
Then, the second player, player 2, has to try and score a point by dribbling the ball over the line at the opposite side of the field. When a player is able to score or the ball is kicked out of bounds, the players are required to get off their field and switch their sides so that, next time player 1 will be able to play offense. This drill or game resumes quickly with players three and four. It has to be made sure that the player 3 has a ball and is ready to go.
One variation of 1V1 soccer drill is that in order for players to score a point, the player has to be able to stop the soccer ball on the end line. Another variation could be to play 2v2 instead of 1V1.
1V1 games help make the players more aggressive as well as confident with and without the soccer ball. This type of drill helps make them more creative in their attacking techniques as well as very solid in their defending techniques. Attacking and defending are techniques which are the foundation of soccer games. The most successful teams are those that have good 1v1 players.
