1v1 dribbling with fitness twist is a type of soccer drill used for teaching players dribbling techniques. The setup involves making a line of the field. Players are required to pair up and are then asked to sit with their legs crossed or in an “Indian Style”. They will be sitting and facing away from the soccer field or otherwise sitting with their faces towards the direction of the coach or coaches. Each player has one soccer ball each with them and the soccer ball is placed between the players.
The game begins with the coaches going around each of the pair of players and kicking the soccer ball into the field behind the players. Once the ball has been kicked, the two players are required to get up as quickly or as fast as they can from their Indian style sitting position and each player races towards the ball. The players then try to dribble and win the ball back towards the line initially drawn on the soccer field. One point is won by the player who is able to do all of this first. After scoring a point, the players again go back and sit in the same style as before, on the same place with the same positioning of the soccer ball and wait for their coach to come again and kick the ball once again. The player who is able to score the most points is the winner of the game.
The fitness component of this drill is the constant running and retrieving the soccer ball from the field while incorporating the main aspect of dribbling with it. The art of dribbling can be learnt through acquiring the abilities of deception, quickness and controlling the speed of the ball and other techniques. Deception is the ability of convincing the opposing player that one thing is going to happen when, in fact, the player ends up doing something else altogether.
