1×1 3 passes:
This drill conducted from both ends at one time. With reference to the figure, F1 begins the drill by taking the puck to the neutral zone and then making a pass to F2 who is at the far end. F2 makes a pass across the ice to F3 and F1 hoops low. D acts as F1’s shadow down the rink and tries to defend the 1×1 coming back. After making the shot, F1 skates to the passing line, F4 skates to the shooting line and D goes back to the line.
1×1 four times:
This drill is designed to make the forwards practice on their 1×1 strategies. Initial rush is played and any sort of rebound that stays close to the net which forces the forward to exert effort in the dirty areas. This drill starts out with F1 going on a 1×1. When the whistle is sounded, F2 goes against the D1 and F3 and F4 then advance. This drill is also a chance for the defenseman to work on playing about the crease.
Corner Combats:
The net has to be moved approximately 10 feet away from the corner and should face the wall. The drill begins with one F and one D in the corner. Coach tosses the puck over and D & F combat to grab the puck. F tries to score a shot while D tries to draw the puck alongside the boards.
With reference to the figure, players who are not skating out should line up as marked by X’s in the figure. They need to make sure that the puck stays in the corner. Coach should be prepared to toss in a new puck if F misses the shot, if a goal is scored or if the puck clears out from the area. This combat goes on for about 30 seconds. Pushups should be kept as penalties. Penalties are given out specially on tripping someone, high sticking and holding.
Mirror- 1×1:
D passes the puck to F who is coming out from the circle. F takes the puck about the lower parts of the circles. D mirrors F’s moves but keeps a safe distance from F. D tries to sideline the puck carrier before he makes a shot.
The 1×1 Snake Drill:
Players run out from both sides at the same time. It can be done through 2 methods.
When the whistle is sounded, players go down the ice 1×1 and X2 works on appropriate angle to attack. If a second whistle is sounded the players pause to a halt and go around the cone onto the other side of the ice while X2 works on appropriate angle of approach.
1×1 Center Circle:
Players run out from both sides at the same time. D has to skate backward about the whole circle and then meet up with the forward who is coming up from the outside lane. D is trying to find the best angle to force F outside the circle.
