The Black Sheep Drill
This drill is very useful in helping players discover holes in their defense that they may not have noticed otherwise by making sure that they target a specific player on each and every serve. Each teammate will get a chance to take a turn wearing a shirt or a jersey that has a different color than everyone else, and the objective of this game is to try to get a serve past the “black sheep”. The players that can be seen struggling most with this drill can then receive special attention by their coach and be provided extra training to improve their skills.
The Pass Target Drill
The Pass Target drill is a type of drill which will allow the team hitters to move into place to be able to mount an effective counteroffensive. The pass target drill includes having two players positioned on each side between the role of the setter and the receiver. The player receiving the serve has the task of passing the volleyball to the assigned setter who will then have to move to the back of the line in order to receive the next serve while the task of the receiver is to switch places and will now become the setter.
The Overhead Passing Drill
The overhead passing drill tests decisiveness decision by making 3 players line up on each side of the net. They are then required to hit balls at each another as if they were serves. The proximity to each another makes each and every player to decide quickly whether they are to react with an overhead pass or a forearm pass.
Two Minute Drill
The two-minute drill helps teams improve their speed and accuracy, and is also an effective endurance exercise. In each practice, the squad participating in this drill will comprise of two servers, two hitters, and two setters. This specific drill is competitive in a way that it pits each team against each another to see which one is able to accumulate the most serve-receive kills in less than two minutes.
