The Bombs Away Drill
The main purpose of this drill is to be able to get the ball over the net without making any errors or mistakes. This is purely to practice one’s form. To start, 3 players must be placed on one side of the court, positioned as the servers and 3 players on the other side of the end line, positioned as passers. The server’s task is to be able to hit the ball just over the net without making a mistake and ensuring that the ball cannot be returned. The player will receive a point for every missed return.
Basic Mechanics of the Float Serve
The method to practice placing the ball over the net using power is how swiftly the player is able to move their hand to the ball. The arm should be brought back as far as possible and then move forward as fast or swiftly as possible to be able to make contact with the ball. Bright’s drill merely consists of tossing the volleyball as if the player were preparing for a serve and then move their arm all to meet it without striking it. It isn’t important how high the player tosses the ball, but what is important is how much force the arm generates before hitting it.
Horse Serving For Volleyball
For this specific drill the players simply have to line up behind the net and take their turns serving. A coach or any other monitor will determine where the serves should be placed and will assign points based on whether the player is able to meet the serve criteria. For instance, one of the players serves and only grazes the net and the volleyball drops right below it. They will receive no points, while the second player serves into the other side of the court and will receive 2 points for the effort.
Improving Your Game
