Hand Positioning
Players, by practicing their hand position will allow them to keep the position even during the heat of a volleyball game.
They will position their hands in front of themselves in a downward fashion with all of their fingertips close together and all their fingers spread out. Using the same position, they need to get their hands up over their heads. Now, they can pull both their elbows down to their sides and then open up a space between their hands which allows for a ball to be held.
Contact with the Ball
When in contact with the ball, the player’s fingers are what should touch the ball. They need to use their fingertips and their wrists as their weapons. With this, they can catch the volleyball better and push it with much more force.
Positioning Yourself
Players need to be able to position their entire body correctly and to be stable in their position. While they wait for a pass, their bodyweight should be on their right foot. This allows their body to be ready towards the left in order to follow the ball when passed.
Tight Pass Saving
When the players receive a ball that drifts over close to the volley net, they can save the tight pass instead of letting their opponent score.
As soon as they see a tight pass occurring, they need to make a set. If it is a very high tight pass, then the player can do a jump set.
Net Pass Saving
In an instance when the ball just hits the net, players need to act fast and save the ball. They need to be aware of what direction the ball is going to fall in and then bend and crouch just underneath that spot. When the ball pops out of the net, they can execute a bump set.
A general rule of thumb in volleyball is that when the volleyball hits the upper portion of the net, it tends to fall down. And if it hits the lower portion, then it will pop out. Players need to use this to help them judge where to position themselves.
