Be prepared
Before tryouts, players need to make sure that they have set aside time for preparation. This will help make or break their tryout and help determine their chances of landing a spot on the volley team. Many weeks before the tryout, players should be developing athleticism and carrying out exercise training. Coaches are always on the lookout for specific abilities and specific skills. In order to go the extra mile, players should carry out general strength training exercises as well. Squats and push-ups can target their muscle groups that have to be in their top shape for sports such as volleyball.
Get there on time
The player’s first impression is critical and they only have one chance to make it the right one. Rushing to the tryout 10 minutes late will not help them get off on the right foot or to a good start. It will be beneficial if they treat the tryout just like a job interview. Arrive at least 20 minutes before the tryout begins. Arriving early to the tryout will also give players some time to analyze their potential teammates.
Warm-up
Warming up includes of a few steps and they are a good way to prepare oneself before participating in a physical activity. One of the steps is stretching. This is something every athlete has develop a habit of doing. It can loosen up the muscles to help improve their performance on the court. It is also a vital tool that athletes could use to help avoid any injury. It is especially vital before a tryout as your muscles will need to be conditioned before the game. Another very important step is to stay hydrated. Drink at least one glass of water before you begin playing.
Think on your feet
Players have to think quickly. Always keep their mind on the task at hand. This will allow them to come up with the best methods in order to succeed and ultimately play the best game that they can.
Listen up
It is extremely vital that players show potential coaches that they know how to take direction. How a player plays the game is a large piece of who they are as a player. However, their ability to listen impacts the entire team on a much bigger scale.
Work Together
For a player to stand out is great, but being able to work with other players is just as important. Coaches want to see that players will be able to add to their team’s morale and develop great chemistry with them. Good communication is key.
Ask questions
If you make a mistake, after the tryouts, ask questions. Coaches are there to help players improve as an athlete and they will gladly help in correcting their mistakes. Talking through ones flaws with a coach will allow them to ultimately understand who you are as a player and show them that you are willing to work very hard.
