Badminton is a form of sporty entertainment played on a court, much like tennis. Moreover, similar to tennis, badminton is played with racquets. However, rather than hitting a ball forward and backward over the net, players hit a “shuttlecock”, and a point is lost or picked up if the shuttlecock touches the court surface. Kids can enjoy sessions of badminton and enhance their badminton abilities with a couple of straightforward drills.
For this drill, cans are set on one side of the net while players remain on the opposite side of the net with a variable number of shuttlecocks. Players attempt to hit the shuttlecocks into the basins. The containers can also be put close to the corners so players can practice hitting shots there. Players can be challenged to see who hits the most shuttlecocks into the basins. As players propel, a mentor or parent can hit delicate shots to the players who at that point run to retrieve the shuttlecocks from the cans.
The Smash Drill enables youngsters to work on hitting the shuttlecock at a descending point with force, hitting the shuttlecock with a hard racquet stroke and pointing downwards over the net so the opponent finds it difficult to return the shot. Players remain close to the net while the mentor or parent hurls or delicately hits the shuttlecock to the youngsters who then hit the shuttlecock over the net.
The Airborne drill is a fun practice that enables kids to follow the shuttlecock with their eyes as they hit it with their racquets. The activity requires the kids to bounce their shuttlecocks high into the air with their racquets and repeat so as not to let the shuttlecock fall to the ground. The goal of this drill is to keep the shuttlecock in the air for as much time as possible. This can be turned into a challenge whereby the player who keeps the shuttlecock bouncing in the air for the most time, wins!
