The game of Badminton requires a certain set of skills that the players need, to execute their best play. Here is a list of the required aptitude and skills that need to be aced.
These are the 5 fundamental shots which will give you a strong base to help advance your badminton play.
Serve
The serve might just be the most vital shot in badminton. It is the most essential shot in your collection of badminton aptitudes. A decent serve will place you in a solid position to win the point. On the other hand, a bad serve will place you in a defenseless position. Note that there are two sorts of serve; the forehand serve and the strike serve.
Clear
Also known as lobbing, the clear shot is the most important badminton shot especially in a Singles Game. It is usually used when you need to buy more time for yourself to return to base before your opponent hits the next shot. It is also strategic to use when your opponent is closer to the fore-court, forcing him to retract to the back to retrieve the shuttle. If the clear shot sends the shuttle right to your opponent’s baseline, it’s considered a good defensive clear.
Drop
What shot is called a drop shot? Any shot which arrives between the administration line and the net. It doesn’t make a difference where it is taken from. Your opponent will most likely be unable to retrieve the shot. The closer you are to the net, the more probable it is for you to score. This shot is to limit your rival to give back the shuttle by hitting upwards.
Drive
The drive shot is a basic flat shot, that is directly hit over the net. It is a powerful, quick counter-attacking shot that is easy to execute. If the shot is played correctly, it will force your opponent to hit an upward return, giving you opportunities to counter-attack. To execute the shot, your racket should be held with the head facing straight ahead locking your wrist as the shuttle comes in contact with your racket.
Crush
The badminton smash is considered the most powerful shot in badminton and is usually played on the forehand. It is often difficult to return because of the pace and the downward angle of the shot, think of it as a downwards drive. It is best used when the shuttle is high in the air so that it can be angled downwards. When the shuttle comes in from a high angle, it will allow you enough time to arch and get in position to strike. At the highest point of contact, with a flick of the wrist aim the shuttle downwards in a steep gradient.
