Double play is a multifold baseball trick where player has to quickly decide on when he should attempt the play at different locations. In this way, you intentionally, hit the ground ball from different positions at varied speed to a number of in-fielders. In the double play, it has been a common observation that in the game, the players try hard to catch the ball with the use of a single hand when get throw on the other. To transfer the ball from one hand to another, takes a certain time duration which slows down the speed of double play. To improvise the bare-hand double play drill, instructs the players to utilize both hands at once. This drill helps them to develop multi-tasking skills.
Equipment to be used is the baseball and the field chosen should be the second base area.
To master this drill, a set-up is designed where a couple of second basemen players are selected. You can also use short stops. Both these players are placed quite close to second base area and are not allowed to wear gloves. The game starts when the coach of your team will roll the baseball to the infielders. The roll used is quite unique then the done in the normal infield scenarios. The rolling is done from quite close to second base area to the infielders.
During this time, the infielders are working on their in-fielding and double play. The players are supposed to work on fielding of their ground balls. The major catch is to work on them with both their hands. They should make a underhand toss. To the other player in the field who has the bag. The toss should be accurate enough to make a good start
The player here is working on catching the ball with both the hand at the same time.
