Shuffle Drill: One of the most vital skills that beach volleyball players will need to develop in order to become good at the game is the ability to move around on the sand quickly during a game. As sand is very difficult to run around on for long periods of time, it requires quite a bit of lower body strength but this basic beach volleyball drill will help players in developing the strength they will need to do just that.
In order to perform the shuffle drill, players have to shuffle on the sand by moving sideways while not crossing their feet even once. Particular attention should be given to their posture, by staying bent at their knees and having their feet almost shoulder width apart with the player’s arms bent and lightly held in front of them.
Opposing Teammates Drill:
This specific drill is performed by having a single player on each side of the net, volleying against one another as if they were from the opposing teams as each player will attempt to meet the ball to dig it and also return it. Practicing this drill will help develop a much quicker reaction time and far more accurate returns.
Jump Serving: In order to learn to effectively and accurately serve the volleyball in the right direction as well as at the correct speed is very crucial and performing the jump serving drill is a basic way of improving a beach volleyball player’s ability to do just that.
To perform this specific drill, the players have to practice serving short serves and rather than serving the ball from the back line they are required to move about a third of the way down to the court and then practice their serves from there using all the different angles and at many varying speeds repeatedly as they slowly make their way back to the baseline.
Players should keep the objective in their mind to keep the same speed as well as accuracy once they have reached the back line as they had while serving from 1/3rd of the way down the volley court.
