There are some general ideas for overcoming various forms of opponents. Ultimately, to maximize your combat ability, you would have to enhance your fitness and technique. Once your boxing abilities improve, so will your ability to deal with various styles of opponents. And even then, there’s still going to be someone who negates your style easily. There are basic types of fighting styles:
Power puncher
A power puncher embodies everything about a sport that is brutal. One of the most famous power punchers in boxing is Deontay wilder. Many power punchers appear to lack finesse in the ring, but make up for it with brute power, often with a single blow, able to knock almost any opponent out. To beat them, just use a strong defense or keep moving. Without using more energy, the aim is to avoid his punches. You need to wear him out, so that when his punches don’t hurt as much and he tires out, you can strike him.
Out boxer
The out-boxer tries to maintain a distance and fight with quicker, longer range punches against their opponent. The most notable out-boxer is the greatest of all time, Muhammad Ali. Out-boxers are renowned for their feet being incredibly fast, which often compensates for a lack of strength. They usually end up winning by points rather than knockout. To beat them, use fast punches, not power punches. Use many fast punches and you’ll eventually catch him. Once you do, you can try more powerful shots.
Defensive shell
This boxer will always keep his guard up and look for a counter attack. The ‘Notorious’ Conor Mcgregor is one of the best counter punchers in MMA, and Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather is the best defensive boxer of all time. He will be looking for a mistake from your side to unload his strikes. To beat this type of fighter, throw loads of punches and you’re going to break through. Try to get to his side or behind him before you attack, don’t just stand in front of him or you’ll get hit by a counter.
Aggressive swarmer
A swarmer is a warrior who wants to overpower his adversary by relentless pressure. One of the best sluggers in boxing history was George Foreman. In order to get inside, swarmers need to have very good head movement. Strong power, a strong chin, and a massive punch capacity. While fighting this opponent you don’t have time to think, so all you can do is strike back and
hopefully, you don’t get tired before he does. Be smart, use good punches and aim. Come closer to him to take away his punching space or block several of his punches with a strong guard. Make sure you shoot back to at least keep the fight even or you will end up as a punching bag.
