Brakes are mandatory. Whether be it a car or a bike, using brakes is important. T- Stopping is one rule on how you can put a complete halt or slow down your rollers. Its as simple trick you just need to drag one skate behind you using its wheels as a brake to control your speed.
There are other ways as to how you can stop your rollers which is by using heel-brakes but it’s got its cons. One way is by heel stopping. Many skaters like their brakes on and some don’t. With the bit of practice T-stopping is the fastest and the efficient way to slow down. T-stopping blends nicely into a stop and doesn’t lock up over edgy surfaces.
Here are the rules and tips on how to slow down!
We need to stop in a straight line. To do this you need to keep an inside edge of the leading foot and resist the pull of the open hips.
We need to learn control before power. You need better balance and control on the leading leg to allow that trailing leg to be light. This won’t stop you very fast but learn to be light first and the power bit will be easy later.
Don’t forget and make points of these 3 important things. You need to bend your front knee. Keep at least a ‘skate and a half’ gap between the leading and trailing feet and lastly keep your head upright and shoulders facing forward.
The rest is easy but hey, don’t forget about the position and body balance and you’re good to go!
