How to breathe while running?
Exactly how do you breathe when you run? Do you close your mouth and breathe from your nose or vice versa? Different trainers give different advices, but it’s a question we should have an answer to.
If you already run or you’re starting there are few things you should know. Firstly, that the best and the most effective way of breathing while you’re running is breathing in and out through your mouth. It’s important you should know that while running your lungs needs the maximum amount of oxygen as running takes up a lot of it, hence; the best way to transport air to your lungs is from your mouth due to larger space than nose but if your nose wants to join in a few times, it surely can!
It’s sometimes a question that how can we train our breathing muscles to get better at this? Obviously, it requires a lot of training that’s why Olympic trainers and runners are trained at higher altitude due to less oxygen so their bodies can perform better and get used to it. Try laying on the floor with back straight and breathe in and out. Watch your belly rise and not your chest. This ensures that the oxygen is reaching all the way to your diaphragm. Continue this every day to make your breathing muscle stronger.
Races usually increases up the oxygen level up to 60 beats per minutes, hence its important your breathes are deep and reach to your belly so that you don’t use up all of your energy before the finish line and stay hydrated as much as possible because you can lose a lot of water when it comes to running through breathing, sweat etc.!
