Four corners shooting game is a type of soccer drill. And as the name suggests, it is a drill which helps players learn the techniques of shooting in soccer. This drill is specifically designed for players who are between the ages of 6 to 14 years old.
The setup of the game involves playing on a field which is approximately 25 to 40 yards in size. The goals are of the regular size and goalies are placed at each goal. As for the cones, they are placed at each corner. The entire team is divided into two separate teams of four or five players. However, if there are more than 10 players, then the coach should make four separate teams and play two games.
The game begins when the team coach serves the soccer ball to one of the two far players. The player can either carry out a “one touch shot”, or he has the option to dribble and shoot the ball, or the last option is to pass the ball to his other team mate. If there is a shot and/or the soccer ball goes out of the bounds, the players are asked to leave the field and are supposed to switch lines. Then, the team coach serves another ball again to one of the far corners.
In order to make this soccer drill more competitive, the coach can make the players play the game until and unless a team gets a certain number of goals or continue the game till all the balls have been served.
Some coaching points for four corner shooting game is to keep the lines as short as possible and to have as many or as plenty of soccer balls available. Furthermore, it is important to not keep the players waiting in their respective lines for too long. If there are more than 8 or 10 players, the coach should consider setting up two separate games and asking one of his assistants to run the other game.
