Ground ball competition is basically done to find the fielding grounders and to get done the placement of the players in a perfect manner. Before you start the game, you divide the group in two teams. Every team should have minimum of one play and maximum of four players. You should have a chalk to define the area and of course the baseball. You can also have eight cones placed at different positions. To start the game, one player comes forward from each team. The players are placed behind the back of the cone or the line. The game initiates as first player throws ball at the other. The number of bouncing the ball has, is not specified. However, the ball can never go over the back line before it hits the ground or it is caught by someone. The first player will field the ball anywhere in the fielding area. Bouncing the ball is not mandatory though. Once he has fielded the ball, he throws it back to the player of the opposite team. He can then go back to the finishing point on the line. The scoring of the game is simple while you can add the rules according to your teaching plan.
The points are allocated based on the mistakes they make during the play. You can decide on whether to count on the mistakes of either throwing the ball or fielding it. The team with zero points will ultimately records the victory. With every mistake being made, a point will be added in your team’s score card. The following can be the most commonly occurred mistakes:
- The ball, when thrown, goes outside the fielding area
- The fielding team fields the ball outside the fielding area
- The ball does not hit the ground after hitting the glove or any body part.
