Hockey Warm-up Drills:
Drill #1:
For the sake of this drill, players skate lengthwise in a figure 8 shape.
Areas of focus: a variety of skills can be performed by the players between the blue lines such as acceleration, skating, or anything that initiates movement to warm up their feet.
Drill #2:
When the whistle is sounded, with respect to the figure given below, O1 and O2 carry the puck towards the mid circle. They ditch it at the center line, move on to about halfway across the circle, collect the puck dropped by their partners and take a shot on the net.
Drill #3:
This drill begins with the players lining up at the corner, in sets of three and circle the entire face-off circle.
Alteration: players can do this drill in backward, forward or by focusing on the net at all times.
Drill #4:
When the whistle is sounded, O1 skates over to blue line and does a tight turn to go back to the faceoff circle’s top. Here, he gets a pass from O2 and again makes a tight turn back the ice to accomplish a breakaway. When O2 has made the pass to O1, he is to repeat the drill.
Drill #5:
For the sake of this drill, players get lined up at opposing ends. When the whistle is sounded, the first player lunges forward towards the first faceoff mark, pivots and then goes backwards towards the boards. He will then move in forwards towards the second faceoff mark and do this again and again till he reaches the last faceoff mark.
Drill #6:
For the sake of this drill, players are supposed to start off on the goal line in four lines. When the whistle is sounded, O1 takes off and gets a pass from O2, moves down the ice and takes a shot. The same is repeated with each player moving out from the pass as the previous one crosses through the blue line and as O4 gets a pass from O1.
