The Right-Up Drill for Defense:
This drill starts with the coach dumping the puck behind the net. With respect to the figure, D2 keeps feet forward-facing and goes to the front of the net. D1 collects the puck and goes right up the ice. D1 then passes to a new D1 and D2D passes to D2 who then takes a shot.
Sides should be inversed so that D2 takes the puck and D should also switch lines so that they cover both sides.
The Reverse Drill (For Defense)
This drill starts with the coach dumping the puck behind the net. D2 moves to the front of the net and his feet are facing forwards. D1 takes the puck behind the net, carries it to the opposing set of the net and then does a reverse pass to D2. D2 collects the reverse pass by dropping low and he passes it to the new D1 for a D2D pass to a new D2 who then takes a shot.
Here, the reverse pass off the boards should be firm enough so that it comes out to about 6 feet from the post.
Quick Up:
This drill starts with D1 skating to BL and then back peddling to the hash, pivoting and then picking up the puck. D1 the makes a pass to D2 and does the up and back again. D2 then spots puck at the back of the goal line for another rotation. D1 makes a pass to D2 again but this time D1 skates off to the BL and gets a pass from D2. D1 then walks the BL and takes a shot.
The D-Over:
This drill starts with both D’s together and the puck can be on either side. D1 and D4 skate off to the BL, do a back paddle to hash and then pivot. D1 recovers the pick and goes over to D4 who turns up and makes a pass to D5 over on the wall. D4 and D1 again go up and back. D5 spots the puck below the goal line which D4 collects and goes over to D1. D1 makes a turn up and passes it to D2. D4 and D1 then skate to the BL. D2 makes a pass to D1 who then walks the line and either
takes a shot or makes a pass to D4 to shoot.
The D 2 D Drill:
This drill starts with the coach dumping the puck behind the net. D2 moves with his feet facing forward, on to the front of the net. D1 puts the puck behind the net. D1 does a D2D pass to D2 who drops lower to goal line to receive it. D2 then turns up the ice does a pass to the new D2. New D2 then makes a D2D pass to new D1 who then takes a shot.
Sides should be switched so that D1 can carry the puck and D should also switch lines so that they can cover both sides.
