Shooting Sequence:
With reference to the figure below, black lines show that P makes a pass to D. D treads inside of the dotted lines and takes a shot.
The blue lines show: P makes a pass to D (who is inside of the dotted line) and takes a shot.
The green lines show that D gets inside and receives a pass for a one-timer.
The maroon lines show that P rims the puck off to the far well, D recovers the rim, treads inside of the dots and takes a shot.
D Lateral Skate and Shoot:
With reference to the figure below, put pucks as shown. D skates in firmly and picks up the puck, grafts it back to the point, switches to forward, continues along the blue line and makes a shot. He then continues to the opposing side to get a new puck, grafts it back to the point across the blue line and makes a shot.
Depending on the shooting side of the player, he will skate ahead across the blue line on one side and graft along backward to the opposite side.
Puck Movement:
This drill starts with F against the wall and D on the outside of the circle carrying the puck. D back skates, switches to forward and passes to F on the boards. D then switches to backward and gets a pass from F. D again switches to forward and passes to F while cutting across the center. D should then follow through on the play on the up ice after this pass. Sides should be alternated so that D can work on both directions.
360* Pivot Pass:
For this drill, D starts at the uppermost part of the circle and then skates backwards to the lowermost part of the circle. He then switches to backward and then again to forward at the lower part of the circle. During this drill, D makes a pass back and forth to the coach who is at the upper part of the circle.
This way, two revolutions are performed. D can then be made the person who will be at the upper part of the circle and will make the pass.
Swedish Shooting Drill:
Each player takes 3 shots. At the beginning, the defenseman will get a puck from the corner and rushes to the middle of the ice as swiftly as possible and takes a shot from the upper portion of the slot. The player goes on around the cones and is facing the net at all times. This causes them to pivot and get the next pass while moving backwards. When the next pass is received, the player will repeat the entire process as given above. When the third pass is received, they do a quick pass to their partner who then does a pass back near the upper part of the slot, for a one time shot.
