Keep the yard clean is a game play used as a passing technique in soccer drills. It is an excellent method or drill necessary to polish a players passing techniques. The main objective of this drill is for the teams to keep their yard or their side of the field clear of as many soccer balls as they possibly can. The setup of this game requires two 40 X 40 grids placed next to one another. Before the start of this drill, the coach needs to divide the players into two teams, consisting of equal number of players on each team. Each respective team is then assigned one, of the two grids available. Furthermore, at the start of the game, each player of both the teams will have a ball provided to them. The game will begin when the coach blows the whistle. The objective of the game is for the players to pass the ball from their yard into the yard of their rival team. 3 to 5 minutes after the first whistle, the coach blows the second whistle which signifies that the game has ended. The team that wins the game is decided depending on the one which has the least number of balls in their yard, thus achieving the core objective of the game.
One of the coaching points available for players on this game play is that the players should be made aware of the types of possible passes they can or they have to use in the game. These will be provided beforehand when laying down the rules of the game. Also, if the passes being made by players should be done so using their left foot only. Furthermore, the coach may make deductions for balls that have been passed very high. Lastly, in order for the game to keep running smoothly, each team should have a coach stand behind their respective grids to keep the balls in play.
