Create A Routine
First step is that, if you are able to develop a routine from the very start, your team is most likely to know who is in charge and that you are very serious in terms of your commitment to playing and coaching a great season. Beginning on day one, especially if you are supposed to be replacing a coach that was admired by his or her team, you have to make sure that the lines of communication are open. As a coach, you need to find out what your team admires and is passionate about in terms of the sport, and also where they feel that the lack and the areas they need to improve and where they excel.
Be Attentive
As a coach, you need to be attentive. This means that you need to be noticing where areas with issues between individuals as well as the sport itself. There is almost a guarantee that there will be “cliques” within the team that you are coaching.
As a coach, one of the most important and essential things you can do is make sure that none of the players feel excluded. You can help wedge and counteract the gap with gestures such as calling each of the players by their name, hosting events such as sleepovers or even pizza parties. Camaraderie is a vital part of netball. Without this part, the team will not be able to respect one another and that will show on the court.
Mixing Work And Fun
In order to make a good coach, you have to be able to manage to tip-toe on the line between being an authority figure and being a friend. And by doing this, you have to be able to create a balance between discipline and fun. Even though, being a coach, you have created a proper schedule of how you will be carrying out practices, which will help reinforce who is in charge, make sure to you surprise your team with a little off time through fun every now and then.
If players in the team need a little extra time practicing balance, you can play the ice-cream game. Or in instances where you notice some distance between players, try the game hunt-group. Children get burnt out, and by spending a little time being non serious often helps the younger players renew their love for the game.
Parental Interaction
This is very important. Try and get parents on board, which is one of the hardest, but most structurally vital technique for becoming a great coach. You will need to take out some time and meet the parents and introduce yourself to each and every parent. This kind of gesture goes a long way. An important aspect of the game is to keep your team on track within the classroom so that they can have their parents trust and support on the court. This would imply that if a student was to be acting up in any way, they will not only be penalized by you, but there would be consequences at home, from their parents as well.
