Warm Up Drill
It is important to make the kids warm up before making them play netball so that their bodies limber and their blood starts circulating properly. An effective but very basic drill for doing this is to have the kids run a few laps around the court at a jogging pace. This can then be followed by some basic stretches including arm swings, lunges, squats, torso twists, and hamstring walks.
Netball Tag
This is a fun netball game that will assist in improving the kid’s maneuverability and while on the court. The game will start by dividing them into two separate teams and then handing the ball over to one of the teams.
The team with the ball will be ‘tagged’ and will try to ‘tag’ the players on the opposing team by touching them with the ball. The game ends when all of the players from the opposing team have been ‘tagged’ and the player remaining till the end of the game is declared the winner.
Pass and Catch
This is an extremely effective yet simple netball drill for kids and helps them develop their power and accuracy when throwing the ball.
To pass the ball and catch it, pair up all players and have them pass and also catch the ball between themselves. This will be done until a predetermined number of catches and passes have been reached by each pair.
King Ball
Divide the kids into two teams and then assign the position of the “King” to one player from each team. The King is supposed to go and stand on their bench.
Each team will then attempt to get all team’s members to become kings and stand on their bench. The first team to do this wins the game. Team members can become a King by making successful passes to their team’s King without him falling off the bench while also abiding by the netball rules.
