One-Two Infield Drill – Infield Drills

Usually when an infielder needs to field a ball to the side, he makes the play but if the ball hits directly at him, this results in an error.

The drill is used to teach the infielder on how to handle when the ground ball hits him directly. The equipment used for the drill will be the baseballs. To create this set-up, you need to draw a straight line in infield. If you have a good fielding area, you can also make use of a baseline for this drill. This will help the infielder to develop the footwork skills which will assist to handle the ground ball which can hit him directly. This method simulates the ground ball that should be taken charge of b the infielder instead of the ripped ball.

The player should stand on the base or the dirt line. The coach will begin the game by first rolling the ball towards the player. The player is supposed to move forward when the ball is rolled. The right way of attempting it to slightly move toward the right. As the ball comes to him, he will perform a step called a “One – Two” step to maintain the position of fielding the ball. The One-two step means to place the right foot on the right side of the line and the left foot on one side of the ball and he line.

Once the ball is in the hands of the player, he will do this step once again before he throws the ball. This drill is excellent in learning the necessary footwork and the other fielding techniques.
