The purpose of this drill is that it is a good conditioning drill and it helps players work on making good turns when they are taking extra bases. The equipment required to play are two baseballs. The setup of this simple drill begins with the coach splitting the team into 2 equal squads. Then, half the team will be positioned at home and the other half will be positioned at second.
The execution of relay race begins with having the first player in the line start with the ball in his or her hand. On the coaches signal, each team will begin running around the bases. After each and every player runs around all the different bases, the player will then hand the ball to the other next player. The first team who is able to get all the players completely around wins. To increase or add to the level of difficulty and decision making, players can use tennis balls and then have the players throw the ball to the next player any moment after he has rounded the last base.
