The purpose of this drill is that it helps players to be able to isolate the important parts of the swing. The equipment required are a bat and a helmet. If the setup of the drill is a group drill, then the coach needs to make sure that all the players have plenty of space and that all of them are wearing their helmets. As for younger players the coach may want to not use a bat in a group drill and introduce a bat part of a batting practice station, and not during the drill.
The execution involves having each player getting into his or her stance The coach will have the task to simulate a windup and then deliver an imaginary pitch. He is then required to yell inside or outside as he is delivering the pitch. As for the player, he will be required to coil, stride, and then swing at the imaginary pitch.
The things necessary to watch for during this particular drill are all the items included in the hitting series 1 to 3. The players have to make sure that their shoulders should rotate on a level plane. It is important that each player learns through the drill to lead the bat with using their hands. The swing needs to be at the swing level, not above or below it.
The coach should have each of the player repeat the drill more than one time, have players step out of the box and get the sign from the 3rd base coach each time.
