1 on 1 Shadow:
The player first in line skates out and goes out onto the ice wherever he wants. The player second in line goes out after the first one and attempts to act as first skater’s shadow by exactly following all his moves. This drill should not last longer than 15 seconds. This drill focuses on helping players work on reaction time.
The figure 8– Drill 1:
This drill can be conducted with or without the use of pucks. It is important to monitor that players move their feet along the turns instead of gliding. This drill is designed such that players go out of their way, step out of their comfort zone and learn new skills. It is possible that the players will fall or lose the puck since they are being forced to step out of their comfort zone. Overtime, with more practice, the players should be able to do tighter and precise turns about the dots.
The Figure 8- Drill 2:
This drill proceeds the same way as the figure 8 drill 1 except that players run out from the sideboards. This drill can also be conducted with or without the use of pucks. This drill is designed such that players go out of their way, step out of their comfort zone and learn new skills. It is possible that the players will fall or lose the puck since they are being forced to step out of their comfort zone. Overtime, with more practice, the players should be able to do tighter and precise turns about the dots.
The ‘S’ Drill:
This drill can be conducted with or without the use of pucks. Each player skates on an ‘S’ pattern and should finish by taking a shot on the goal. An alteration to this drill can be that the player goes without the puck and then accepts a pass from another player in the faraway corner when they reach the end. It is important to monitor that players move their feet along the turns instead of gliding.
Red and Blue Crossover:
For the purpose of this drill, it should be ensured that the players touch the blue and red lines and don’t go about by cutting them short. This drill can also be conducted with or without the use of pucks. If it starts out without a puck, the first player can receive a pass from the player next in line when the skater crosses across the blue line.
Dot Drill:
This drill can also be conducted with or without the use of pucks. If it starts out without a puck, the first player can receive a pass from the player next in line when the skater crosses across the blue line. It is important to monitor that players move their feet along the turns instead of gliding.
