Tennis is a game where little changes can receive huge benefits. Here are some essential drills to help enhance the weakest areas of your tennis practice. The listed are tennis drills that will help during your practice for the big game:
-
Big serve with drop shot winner
Player serves to the T from ad side.
The coach hits the ball back to the player’s backhand side.
The player finishes with a backhand drop shot down the line.
-
Place cones in the deuce service box for the player to aim for when hitting the drop shot
In this drill the player works on following up his/her serve with a drop shot down the line.
After a good serve, many players will respond with a weaker return so they are forced to take few steps behind the baseline to achieve a proper defensive position.
Smart players can use this information to mix the rhythm and hit a down the line drop shot for an easy winner.
Progression:
- Place cones on the ad side for the player to aim for when serving
- Make the distance between the cones on the deuce side smaller as players skill levels increase
- 2 Lines- backhand and forehand drill
Players start in two lines, one behind the deuce service box and the other behind the advantage box.
Coach feeds balls alternately to players on their left and right. Players on the coach’s left hit forehands and those on coach’s right hit backhands.
Players are aiming to put the ball away, as close to the baseline as possible.
After playing the shot players loop around to the outside and join the back of the other line.
Players can perform dynamic stretches on their way to the back of the other line (heel flicks, grapevine etc)
