Here are some tips to keep golf fun and exciting for junior players, help them learn the game properly and cultivate interest in the sport:
Get a Professional Teacher
Find a PGA professional to teach your child and give them room to grow. Find an instructor who has significant experience teaching kids or specializes in junior golf programs. Always provide your child with support and encouragement but let the professional give them the golf advice. If you give them advice as well, the conflicting information may confuse your child.
Younger Kids Need Variety
Small children get bored easily of the monotony and repetition in practice drills, which may just make them lose interest in the game. Hence it is important to keep practice fresh and exciting for the little ones. Everything you have them do doesn’t have to be golf related. Any activity that helps improve their hand-eye coordination, build their confidence or emphasizes athletic movement can be sprinkled in between training sessions to break the monotony.
Don’t buy Equipment too early
As enticing as it is to go out and buy your child a complete golfer’s kit as soon as they even look at a golf-ball, it’s best to expose them to the game first. Let them see if they enjoy it and want to play more. If you see that your child likes the game and wants to play further, get them the proper equipment since kids should not use long clubs with heavy grips as it introduces bad swing habits. Proper club weight and length is imperative for young players.
